Flaggers should not be allowed to SIT during a moto.  They should have their back to the jump and be watching the landings... They should not be 10-15 feet from the jump and have to get up, grab the flag and then run...  Nope they should not.... My son was tagged in a bad crash on FB---  enough said...

Flaggers are a very important part of the race day. They are out there for 8 or more hours on sunday and sitting is ok. There are times when there is no traffic by their station. I don't know what "FB---" is,and I'm sorry your son got hurt.I never want to see anyone get hurt. My son used to race also. I have flagged many times over the years at different tracks and my wife has also. Flaggers need to be stationed in positions where the riders can't see. A flat corner where the rider can see ahead does not require a flagger. The rider can see ahead and should act accordingly. On a jump or an area of the track where the riders cannot see ahead, the flagger needs to be at a point where he can see the beginning and the end of the obstacle, even if it requires 2 of them, and should be on their feet with the flag in their hand should something happen. The flagger needs to see what happenend and whats coming.Their back to the face of the jump doesn't allow them to see what coming, which in reality is the more important thing to prevent any further mishaps. They need to see it all. If they are watching the downed rider they can't see the riders coming that could hurt the downed rider or hurt themselves. Some tracks have elevated stands on big jumps so the flagger can see everything.Their job is to prevent the situation from worsening. They can't go help a downed rider until they are sure no other riders are coming. One of the tracks we flagged at you had to be 18 years old, watch a flagger training video, beforehand, and received on site training before you went out each time you flagged. All the tracks should do that.
